Creating value for growth technology companies

Frontier IP Group (“Frontier IP”) provides equity-based marketing services to private technology companies through four high growth technology clusters including: artificial intelligence, robotics and big and sparse data; pathogens and cell imaging; food and agrotech; and artificial particles and materials. Frontier IP’s early access to companies with cutting edge intellectual property and the structural growth of target clusters offer significant upside potential. The year ending June 2021 saw the value of Frontier IP’s portfolio increase by 64% to £ 32.0million (from a 47% increase to £ 19.4million in the year 2020).

Access to the advanced university IP

The Group has worked with universities such as Cambridge, Heriot Watt Manchester, Plymouth and NOVA University Lisbon. Frontier IP’s relationships help ensure quick access to cutting-edge intellectual property, such as AI in a drug discovery that led to a 1.7% stake in UK-based Exscientia (NASDAQ EXAI). Its AI is now deployed to help discover drugs for pharmaceutical majors including Bayer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Roche and Sanofi. As of October 2021, Exscientia is listed on the Nasdaq, raising $ 465 million. Frontier IP’s stake in Exscientia has now reached a value of £ 29.3million, with this growth contributing significantly to the overall increase in Frontier IP’s portfolio in fiscal 2021.

Strong relationships with industry partners

Frontier IP works closely with universities, research institutes and academics to identify intellectual property that can be commercialized. The Group therefore plays a leading role not only by providing expertise and access to external financing, but also in marketing by adopting a practical approach to commercial and technical development and by calling on industrial partners. This is the key to increasing the value of equity. For this, it secures participations and fees. Industry partners include Bosch, which Frontier introduced to portfolio companies Fieldwork Robotics and Pulsiv Solar.

Recommendation

Exscientia clearly demonstrates the strength of the Frontier IP model. The portfolio also includes a number of other companies in a phase of accelerating their commercial development. This paves the way for an increase in valuation or a potential exit. We believe that Frontier IP represents an excellent opportunity for investors to gain exposure to early stage technology companies, based on cutting edge intellectual property, which meet the needs and demands of international markets and although it has almost doubled. since our inception, we continue to see potential for further earnings.

We reiterate our purchase recommendation.
